Parkland high school shooting survivor David Hogg targeted the popular video-sharing social network TikTok in a thread posted to Twitter on Wednesday.
Hogg, who is now a political activist, suggested that TikTok is a “national security threat” and “spyware from an authoritarian regime” that should only be used to “call out the Chinese government”, or otherwise be cancelled.

Hogg tweeted, “Tik Tok is a national security threat that should only only be used to call out the Chinese government (who controls it) for their atrocities and human rights abuses.”
“Seriously y’all memes and jokes are fun but downloading the spyware of an authoritarian regime is not,” he added. “I’m not kidding we need to #CancelTikTok.”
Hogg continued, “Another reason I will not be going on there is because they censor activists voices in Hong Kong and around the world that call out the CCP for their atrocities. I refuse to be complicit in the death of democracy in Hong Kong by supporting Tik Tok.” See Below

This is 100% correct
Next step for @davidhogg111 is to consider this: would the Chinese government get away with “their atrocities and human rights abuses” if their people had firearms? https://t.co/ijoN1H8R2E

Hogg later acknowledged compliments he received from those who share an overall different political perspective as him:
I’m glad that we can agree that any government that uses mass surveillance to censor activists or subvert democracy either in their country or abroad is a threat to human rights. https://t.co/mK8PNct5KX
