Republicans and world leaders reacted with thoughts and prayers after learning that President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19.
Trump signaled late on Thursday that his senior advisor Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus, and that he and Melania were being tested and would undergo quarantine as a precaution.
Early Friday morning, the President announced that he and and the First Lady both tested positive for COVID-19.
President Trump’s former physician Ronny Jackson tweeted, “Our President and First Lady have tested positive for COVID-19, however, rest assured they are both fine and completely asymptotic. The President is in very good health and has NO comorbities.”
“Well over 99% of healthy individuals in the President’s age group recover completely and most never even become symptomatic. I fully expect this to be the case with President Trump as well,” he added.
As news of the first couple’s status spread, Vice President Mike Pence issued the following statement: “Karen and I send our love and prayers to our dear friends President @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS Melania Trump. We join millions across America praying for their full and swift recovery. God bless you President Trump & our wonderful First Lady Melania.”

Newt Gingrich wrote, “President Trump and the First Lady testing positive for Covid-19 should not lead to any crisis in governance. President Eisenhower had a heart attack on September 24, 1955 and was hospitalized until November 11 (his first public appearance was October 25 in the hospital).”
“Ike recovered-went on to win a second term a year later. President Reagan was shot, recovered-governed for eight years. The anti-Trump media is trying to turn the President’s announcement into more than it is. Let’s keep he and Melania in our prayers and relax-America will be fine,” he added.

James Woods tweeted, “In my 73 years on this earth I have never witnessed a man and his family be put to the test like this President and First Lady have been. God challenges those who are needed most. While the Left is no doubt sniggering with glee, we patriots pray for our @POTUS and our @FLOTUS.”
