California Governor Gavin Newsom commended President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic while speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Newsom said Trump has been “responsive” to California’s needs every step of the way when called upon, and that the two of them are “trying to focus on developing a relationship ship of trust” to help get through the crisis.
“I’d be lying to you to say that he hasn’t been responsive to our needs,” Newsom told Tapper. “He has, and so as a question — as sort of an offer of objectivity, I have to acknowledge that publicly,” Newsom declared.
“And the fact is every time I have called the president, he has quickly gotten on the line,” he added. “When we asked to get support for that Mercy ship in Southern California, he was able to direct that in real time.”
“We got 2,000 of these vehicle field medical sites that are up, almost all operational in the state, because of his support,” Newsom pointed out. “Those are the facts.”
“We always want more. We could always criticize this or that. At the end of the day, we’re just trying to focus on developing a relationship of trust as a matter of course because there are just too many Americans — 40 million, they live in this state — that deserve us to get together and get along,” he concluded.
