On Wednesday, President Trump fired back at Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) during a joint press conference, over the South Carolina Senator’s criticism of the Commander in Chief’s withdrawal from Syria, countering that Graham should focus on investigating what happened during the 2016 election involving Obama administration officials, instead of the Middle East.

While speaking to the press on Wednesday, Sen. Graham said of President Trump, “It’s now time for you to act like Ronald Reagan, not Obama. You need to up your game.”

“Lindsey Graham would like to stay in the Middle East for the next thousand years with thousands of soldiers and fighting other people’s wars. I want to get out of the Middle East,” President Trump said.

The President urged Graham to focus on his role as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee investigating allegations of corruption involving Obama administration officials. He suggested that Sen. Graham take a look into former President Obama, former CIA Director James Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, and others.

“I think Lindsey should focus on Judiciary, like the Democrats, the ‘do nothing Democrats’, as I call them because they’re doing nothing. They’re getting nothing done. They’re not getting USMCA done, between Canada and the United States and Mexico. They’re getting nothing done,” the President said.

“I think Lindsey should focus on Judiciary,” President Trump continued. “He ought to find out about what happened with Comey, what happened with McCabe, Lisa, what happened with Peter Stzok, what happened with President Obama, what happened with Brennan. That’s what Lindsey ought to focus on. That’s what the people of South Carolina want him to focus on. The people of South Carolina don’t want us to get into a war with Turkey, a NATO member, or with Syria. Let them fight their own wars, they’ve been fighting for a thousand years.” (Continued Below)

“The people of South Carolina want to see those troops come home. And I won an election based on that and that’s the way it is, whether it’s good or bad. That’s the way it is. And if you look at this country, I’d be willing to bet anything, political instinct, that’s what the country wants,” President Trump said.

I’m not gonna get involved in a war between Turkey and Syria, especially when you look at the Kurds. And again, I say this with great respect, they’re no angels,” he added.

Sen. Graham tweeted upon hearing of President Trump’s criticism, writing that he will “NEVER be quiet” on matters of national security. “The worst thing any Commander in Chief can do is to give land back to the enemy that was taken through blood and sacrifice,” he added. “I fear those are the consequences of the actions being taken right now.” (Video Below)

Sen. Graham also tweeted, “I hope President Trump is right in his belief that Turkey’s invasion of Syria is of no concern to us, abandoning the Kurds won’t come back to haunt us, ISIS won’t reemerge, and Iran will not fill the vacuum created by this decision. However, I firmly believe that if President Trump continues to make such statements this will be a disaster worse than President Obama’s decision to leave Iraq.”

He continued, “I worry we will not have allies in the future against radical Islam, ISIS will reemerge, & Iran’s rise in Syria will become a nightmare for Israel. I fear this is a complete and utter national security disaster in the making and I hope President Trump will adjust his thinking. The statements by President Trump about Turkey’s invasion being of no concern to us also completely undercut Vice President Pence and Sec. Pompeo’s ability to end the conflict.”

“When it comes to America’s national security I will NEVER be quiet. Mr. President, forget about what I’m saying about Syria. Listen to your own national security team who are telling you the consequences of your decision and the impact it will have on our nation,” Graham wrote.

He added, “President Trump is being told EXACTLY what President Obama was told before he withdrew from Iraq. He appears to be hell-bent on making the same mistakes in Syria as President Obama made in Iraq. The worst thing any Commander in Chief can do is to give land back to the enemy that was taken through blood and sacrifice. I fear those are the consequences of the actions being taken right now.”
